A dump used for about twenty years beside the Mae Kha canal, turned into a community farm in 2020, when the pandemic left thousands of tourism workers jobless. Some 5,700 tonnes of rubbish were removed and new soil brought in; the harvest is shared and the site doubles as a classroom and a market for small farmers. The governor gave preliminary permission and the municipality lent machinery, though its promoters say the mayor was reluctant at first. Whether it is still running needs checking.
