This page says, in everyday language, who is behind CIVIBA, what you can do with what it publishes and what happens to your email address if you subscribe to the updates. Nothing here describes an intention: it describes how the site works today.

Who publishes this
CIVIBA is a project by Domenico Di Siena, architect and civic designer. It is not a company, it sells nothing and it carries no advertising.
For anything about this page, your data or a correction: contact@civiba.com. Corrections to the atlas travel better through the contribution form, which routes them directly.
What this atlas is, and what it is not
CIVIBA gathers civic innovation projects, spaces and events across four countries, with their sources and the date they were consulted. Every entry shows its verification state: verified, partial or unverified. Publishing something unverified and saying so is part of the method, not an oversight.
That means there may be errors, outdated details and projects that no longer work as described. If you find one, correct it: it is the most valuable part of a living atlas.
A project being here is not an endorsement or a recommendation. Cases with tensions (gentrification, institutionalisation, conflict) are included with those tensions told.
What you can do with the data
The atlas data is published under a Creative Commons BY-SA 4.0 licence: you may copy, reuse and transform it, including commercially, citing the source and sharing the result under the same licence.
Outside that licence are the third-party sources cited, images with their own licence and the trademarks of each project, which belong to whoever owns them.
What you contribute
If you propose a project, a space, a practice or an event, or send a correction, you accept that what you send is published under the same CC BY-SA 4.0 licence, with credit to the contributor.
Nothing is published automatically: every submission goes through review and verification. It may not be published, or it may be published rewritten.
Do not send personal data about private individuals. Contact fields only take public institutional channels: web form, generic organisation email, official social accounts.
Your email address
If you subscribe to the updates we store your address and which lists you are on, which is what records the topics you chose and the language you subscribed in, plus the dates of sign-up and confirmation. Your name is never asked for or stored.
The list lives on our own listmonk installation, on the same server as the project, not on a marketing platform. That installation also records the IP address you confirm from, which is how listmonk evidences that the confirmation happened.
You have to confirm from your inbox: without that click we never write to you. The address is used only to send the updates you asked for. It is not shared, not sold and not cross-referenced with anything.
You can unsubscribe with one click in the footer of any update, and from that same page see what we hold about you, export it or delete it for good, without asking anyone. You can also write to contact@civiba.com and we will do it.
Who else touches that data
The site and the list run on our own server rented from Hostinger. Email is delivered by Resend, from its European region: they provide the sending infrastructure, and your address passes through their servers when a message reaches you.
There is nobody else. No analytics platforms, no embedded social media, no tag managers.
Cookies and measurement
The site uses no third-party cookies and no trackers. The only thing it stores in your browser is what you choose (the language, the filters you share by URL), and that lives on your machine.
Email is a different matter and it is worth saying: updates sent as campaigns currently carry open measurement, and their links go through a redirector, because that is how the listmonk installation is configured. The confirmation email you get when subscribing carries none of that.
Links to other sites
The atlas links constantly to the websites of projects, organisers and sources. Those sites have their own rules and their own trackers, and we do not answer for what they do.
If this changes
When something on this page changes, the page changes and so does its date. We do not email about every edit, but nothing that affects your data changes in silence: if it were ever used for anything other than sending you the updates you asked for, we would ask you again.
