A 300-year-old thatched farmhouse, pioneer of minka renovation in Japan. Alex Kerr bought it in 1973 and remains its owner, but it is run by Chiiori Alliance, the company that also operates, on behalf of Miyoshi City, the eight houses of Tougenkyo-Iya in the Ochiai settlement, a protected district of traditional buildings. All nine opened as lodgings in 2012 and sustain the valley against rural depopulation.
