Civic labs and participationParticipatory urbanism2023

Since fiscal year 2023, each of Bangkok's roughly 2,000 registered communities can receive 200,000 baht for its own projects. At a first assembly they elect a committee of 7 to 15 residents; at a second they vote on the proposals, which the district then approves. It is the closest thing to participatory budgeting in the city, and WeVis publishes an open tool to track it. Tension: spending was very slow and in 2024 the Council set up a committee to review its criteria.
