Coffee Producers Cooperative (CPC)
Bachiangchaleunsouk (Champasak) · South · Laos
A cooperative of smallholder coffee growers on the Bolaven Plateau that washes beans at village centres, exports organic and fair-trade coffee and spends the Fairtrade premium on schools, water, health and cheap credit. On paper a sovereign general assembly elects a board of five producers and a control committee every three years. Tensions: it grew on donor money and debt (Alterfin lent it up to 1.3 million dollars) and went from 1,855 families in 2014 to 707 members in 2023.
