Grupo de conservación del manglar de Ban Pred Nai บ้านเปร็ดใน
Mueang Trat (Trat) · East · Thailand
Coastal village in Trat that in the mid 1980s began to stop mangrove cutting for charcoal and shrimp ponds, and in 1993 formalised its conservation group. It now looks after about 1,920 hectares of mangrove, regulates crab catches, uses its own fund to buy degraded land and replant it, and since 2003 has shared its experience through a provincial coastal management network. Winner of the UNDP Equator Prize in 2004, it is a reference case for community forestry in Thailand.
