Historic centre where residents still live, pray and trade among century-old temples, presented by the public agency DASTA as the country's second living old town after Rattanakosin Island. DASTA took over the area in 2010, tasked with updating the existing plan, and opened forums to hear the community. In 2025 Nan joined the UNESCO Creative Cities Network for its textile and bamboo crafts. Tension: the drive is institutional and tourism-led, and no residents' organisation of its own has been identified.
