Puente Mon (Uttamanusorn) สะพานอุตตมานุสรณ์
Sangkhlaburi (Kanchanaburi) · West · Thailand
Third placeCommons and belonging1986-1987
Wooden bridge built by hand in 1986 and 1987 at the initiative of a Mon monk, with the labour of refugees from Myanmar, to link the Thai town of Sangkhlaburi with the Mon village of Wang Kha, split by a reservoir. The temple kept it up by calling on residents to repair it as merit-making. When it collapsed in 2013 they built a temporary bamboo bridge in six days. The province hired a contractor, residents protested, and in the end the army rebuilt it in 2014 with local help.
