Mae Kampong บ้านแม่กำปอง
Mae On (Chiang Mai) · North · Thailand
Mountain village about 50 km from Chiang Mai that has run its tourism as a cooperative since 1994: homestays, guided visits and local products. A 2016 study reports that 30% of profits go to a village fund that has paid for shared improvements and training, and that all members can take part in decisions. It also has a small community hydro plant. The study is favourable and dated; a recent look at visitor pressure and how income is actually shared between households is missing.
