Khon Kaen Manifesto ขอนแก่นแมนิเฟสโต้
Khon Kaen · Northeast (Isan) · Thailand
Grassroots biennial set up in 2018 to decentralise Thai contemporary art from the north-east. The first edition occupied, without asking permission, an office building left unfinished by the 1997 crisis, and the authorities ordered a work about a jailed activist to be covered. The 2020 edition took place in a former brothel, with a sister show in an abandoned school in Ubon. It invited artists turned down by the official biennials. No editions have been found since its founder died in 2022.
