Khlong Toei ชุมชนคลองเตย
Bangkok (Khlong Toei) · Bangkok · Thailand
Bangkok's largest cluster of informal settlements, built on port land. Since 2019 the Port Authority has been preparing its Smart Community plan, with thousands of flats in blocks, and in 2026 the government is studying closing the cargo port and redeveloping the whole site. In January 2025 residents asked Parliament to reserve 20% of the land for housing they would design themselves, and they fear an entertainment complex. It is an open case about who decides the future of a neighbourhood without land titles.
