A historic riverside neighbourhood along Bangkok's first modern street, declared a creative district by the state after the TCDC design centre moved into the old General Post Office building. Empty warehouses and shophouses have filled with studios, galleries and shops. The CEA agency says it consults local shops before and after each intervention, and the district's own foundation admits gentrification: luxury hotels and foreign investment are arriving. It is a case for testing whether cultural regeneration can avoid displacement.
