Chanthaboon Waterfront Community ชุมชนริมน้ำจันทบูร
Chanthaburi · East · Thailand
A kilometre of wooden houses and Sino-Portuguese facades along the Chanthaburi river, in a neighbourhood of Thai, Chinese and Vietnamese origin more than three hundred years old. After decades of decline, residents set up a community development committee in 2009 to conserve the area and open it to visitors. Its best-known project, the restoration of the Luang Rajamaitri house with hundreds of small shareholders, won a UNESCO award in 2015. Tension: the street is filling with cafes and photo spots.
