Comunidades del canal Bang Bua ชุมชนริมคลองบางบัว
Bangkok (Bang Khen y Chatuchak) · Bangkok · Thailand
About a dozen informal settlements along the Bang Bua canal, home to some 3,400 families, joined the Baan Mankong programme in 2004. As a network they negotiated a long-term collective lease of public land, something no single community could have obtained, and rebuilt their houses set back from the water's edge to leave a public walkway. It was Bangkok's first canal-wide upgrading project and the example that led the state to extend in-situ rehousing to other canals.
