Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC) หอศิลปวัฒนธรรมแห่งกรุงเทพมหานคร
Bangkok (Pathum Wan) · Bangkok · Thailand
A public art centre opened in 2008 at the Pathumwan junction. It exists because in 2001 artists, students, cultural organisations and media opposed the then governor's plan to turn the project into a shopping centre, and in 2005 the city and the sector signed a declaration of cooperation. In July 2025, after a visit by city officials with Chinese embassy staff, works in an exhibition critical of authoritarianism were removed or covered. It shows both what civic pressure can win and how fragile that is.
