Baan Mankong, programa de vivienda segura บ้านมั่นคง
Bangkok (Bang Kapi) · Nationwide · Thailand
A national programme for upgrading informal settlements, launched in 2003. Communities organised in savings groups survey their neighbourhood, negotiate land, design the plan and receive from CODI infrastructure subsidies and housing and land loans that they manage themselves, at city-wide scale. It is the most cited example of urbanism made by the poor with public money. Tensions: the debt households take on, smaller homes and the position of tenants.
