Third placeCivic food2014 / 2018
The capital's great popular fresh produce market burned almost entirely in March 2014. Vientiane Capital commissioned the company Lao World to build a rent-free temporary market for the 243 affected traders; by June only 71 had signed up. The same company then built, under a 70-year concession, a seven-storey, 40,992 m² complex with a market building of just 1,989 m². How many traders returned, and at what price, is unknown.
