Sekong Community Forests and Fish Protection Zones
Xekong (Lamam) · South · Laos
A programme of the Japanese NGO JVC with villages in Sekong, which map their boundaries by GPS, write their own rules and mark out community forests, with patrols that include women, and fish protection zones. It began in 2022 in ten villages and in 2025 moved on to another 18. When the province moved a boundary and one village's forest ended up in its neighbours', mediation led to shared management. Everything published comes from JVC and its funders, and the legal standing of the rules is unclear.
