Beung Kiat Ngong Wetland and Ban Kiet Ngong

Commons and belongingCivic food2009 / 2010

Some 7,400 people from 20 villages live off the Beung Kiat Ngong wetland, where a 2010 district regulation sets zones, assigns conservation pools to villages and shares out patrolling. Ban Kiet Ngong also runs village tourism with elephants. Tensions: IUCN writes that the tourism is "ostensibly" organised by the community; a private ecolodge holds a 50-year concession; the district's elephants fell from about 90 to 15, with animal welfare concerns. No dated sources after 2014.
