Ban Mano Pond Committee

Luang Prabang · North · Laos

Commons and belongingParticipatory urbanism2019

Luang Prabang has a network of urban ponds being filled in or polluted in a city without sewers: according to Gret, there were 183 in 1999 and 120 remain. In Ban Mano, the WISE project used a serious game with residents and set up a mixed committee of residents, pond owners and public bodies to manage them, something rare in Laos. Only the implementer and funders report on it, and it is unknown whether the committee continues after the project ended in June 2026.
