Ollolai

A village in the Barbagia that around 2014 began selling abandoned houses in the historic centre for one euro, on condition they were refurbished within three years, to halt demographic decline. The council later extended the programme with one-month, one-euro stays for digital nomads, in exchange for sharing training and skills with the village. In a decade barely nine sales have closed, and some foreign buyers have missed the renovation deadline and lost the property.
