Manifattura Tabacchi

Florence's former tobacco factory, active between 1933 and 2001, has been under conversion since 2016 into a 110,000-square-metre district with schools, workshops, offices, housing and a hotel, after the complex was sold to an international property fund. The project includes a social housing programme next to the Teatro Puccini. It is a case of large-scale regeneration led by private capital, with public debate over how far it really responds to the neighbourhood's needs.
