Civic labs and participationCommons and belonging1998

Since 1998 the Trieste city council, the public health service and the social housing agency ATER have worked together on microaree, public housing neighbourhoods of between 500 and 2,000 residents with high social vulnerability. Health and social workers live alongside the neighbourhood to weave networks of care and spot problems before they worsen. The model, heir to Basaglia's legacy, now covers 18 microaree and is cited as a precedent for the Case della Comunità of the Italian health system.
