The first cooperative of the Libera Terra project, founded in November 2001 to legally farm more than two hundred hectares confiscated from mafia bosses such as Totò Riina and Giovanni Brusca, across the municipalities of Corleone, San Giuseppe Jato, San Cipirello, Piana degli Albanesi and Monreale. It produces wheat, wine, pulses and the Purceddu d'Alcamo melon, a Slow Food presidio, and employs young people from the area in a territory historically controlled by Cosa Nostra. It bears the name of the peasant trade unionist murdered by the mafia in 1948.
