BASE Milano occupies 12,000 square metres of the former Ansaldo factory, in the Tortona district, following a public competition run by the city council and won by a consortium of cultural organisations. Since 2016 it has operated as a centre for culture, coworking and artistic experimentation with programming open to the city. It is one of the reference projects for converting industrial heritage in Milan.
