La Friche la Belle de Mai

Marseille · Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur · France

Reuse of vacancyArt and territory1990

A former tobacco factory converted since 1990 by a collective of artists into a large independent cultural complex. It now brings together more than sixty contemporary creative organisations (theatre, dance, music, visual art) and operates as a cooperative of collective interest. It is one of the European reference cases for converting industrial friches into civic and cultural infrastructure.
