Rural life and depopulationDemocratic innovationNetwork meetingNational

National day of the Netherlands' small villages, convened by the LVKK, a network of provincial associations supporting some 4,000 village organisations and village halls (dorpshuizen). It brings active residents together with provincial and national politicians and officials in a debate led by residents and in workshops on housing, transport or meeting places. It moves to a different province each edition and is free. Tension: in 2024 it was held in the provincial house and opened by a provincial executive, a closeness that may soften criticism of rural policy.
