Manifesta, European Nomadic Biennial

International Foundation Manifesta (Amsterdam), with the host city or region

Art and territoryArt festival or triennialEuropean

European biennial of contemporary art that has moved to a different city or region at every edition since 1996 (Rotterdam). The Amsterdam-based foundation behind it settles in the host city years ahead and builds, with local artists and associations, an education and mediation programme grounded in field research. It matters to those following art with a territorial vocation: Barcelona 2024 was called Barcelona Metropolitana and Ruhr 2026 used disused post-war churches. Tension: cities apply to host it, which exposes it to working as urban marketing.
