A group of performing arts workers occupied this historic Rome theatre in June 2011 to stop its privatisation after the Ente Teatrale Italiano was dissolved. For three years it operated as a permanent assembly and laboratory of cultural self-government, and became a reference point in the Italian debate on the commons. The occupation ended in August 2014 through an agreement with the city council, without forced eviction, and the theatre returned to ordinary public management.
