Riabitare l'Italia grew out of the manifesto of the same name published in December 2018 and was set up as an association to place the demographic decline of the aree interne on the Italian public agenda. It connects universities, research centres, administrations, cooperatives and activists around proposals for territories that are losing population. It is more a network for thought and advocacy than an organisation operating on the ground, complementing concrete cases such as Riace or Castel del Giudice, already featured in the atlas.
