Partecipanza Agraria di Nonantola

The Partecipanza Agraria di Nonantola has managed around 765 hectares of collective, undivided land north of the town since a concession dating from 1058. Every twelve years the plots are drawn by lot among the families descended from the first beneficiaries, who can farm them, lease them or hand them back to the institution itself. An 1894 law recognised it as a moral entity, but its logic remains that of a living medieval custom.
