Mercato Orientale

The Mercato Orientale has occupied the former cloister of a 17th century convent in the centre of Genoa since 1899, between via XX Settembre and via Galata. It owes its name to the nearby eastern gate of the city, not to any distant geographical origin. It was one of the first Genoese buildings in reinforced concrete and remains the go-to market for daily shopping in the historic centre.
