Magnifica Comunita di Fiemme

The Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme collectively and indivisibly administers around 20,000 hectares of woods and pastures in the Val di Fiemme, a right documented since the Patti Gebardini of 1111 and probably earlier. The vicini, residents with historic rights, elect their representatives according to their own rules, much older than current Italian administrative law. It is one of the best-preserved examples of alpine collective property, based in a Renaissance palace in Cavalese that is today a museum.
