Cooperativa Valle dei Cavalieri

In 1991 the residents of Succiso, a village in the Reggio Emilia Apennines at 1,000 metres altitude, founded Italy's first cooperativa di comunità to halt total depopulation. They run a farm holiday business, a restaurant, a shop for local produce and a pecorino dairy, as well as the national park's visitor centre. The model has been studied by delegations from Japan, the United States and South Korea.
