Cascina Cuccagna
Milán · Lombardia · Italy
This 17th-century farmhouse, municipal property since 1984, was abandoned and declared uninhabitable in the 1990s. At the end of that decade a group of residents founded a cooperative that in 2005 received a twenty-year concession from the council to restore it, reopening it in 2012 after a refurbishment funded by associations and social cooperatives. It is now the most central historic farmhouse in Milan, with a farmers' market, a vegetable garden and a zero-kilometre restaurant.
