Saillans, democracia participativa municipal

Between 2014 and 2020, a citizens' list with no leader or fixed manifesto governed this Drôme municipality using participatory democracy methods: commissions open to any resident, a shared budget and collegial decisions among councillors. It became a national reference, consulted by seven hundred and thirty communes. In the elections of March 2020 the list lost by just eighteen votes, which ended the experience as formal municipal government.
