Le Vent des Forêts

Fresnes-au-Mont · Grand Est · France

Art and territoryCommons and belonging1997

An open-air contemporary art centre created in 1997 by six farming and forest villages in the Meuse, in an area marked by the First World War. Artists in residence live alongside local families and work directly in the forest, in barns or sheds, leaving more than a hundred works spread across 45 kilometres of trails. It is a rare case of contemporary art sustained for decades by the everyday life of very small villages, with the depopulation challenges that entails.
