La Maison des Babayagas

A self-managed residence of twenty-one social housing units for women over sixty, opened in 2013 in Montreuil after fifteen years of campaigning by feminist activist Thérèse Clerc. With no hierarchy or fixed staff, the residents decide together on the garden, activities and daily life, with rents at public housing rates. It is a feminist, secular response to the traditional care home, although its women-only model has generated debate about how replicable it is.
