A former mine pit closed in 1986 in the town of Loos-en-Gohelle, converted into a reference hub for sustainable development with intensive resident participation, from the town's coat of arms to neighbourhood projects. The municipality, once dependent on coal, became a national reference for ecological transition and participatory planning. The transformation is also open to debate: how much of this exemplary narrative reflects genuine resident involvement and how much a well-constructed institutional story.
