Ateliers Médicis

A public cultural institution created in 2015 in Clichy-sous-Bois and Montfermeil, the municipalities that symbolised the 2005 riots, to host artist residencies in a working-class area far from the usual cultural circuits. It operates from temporary premises pending a permanent building planned for 2027. It embodies the institutional bet on bringing first-rate cultural infrastructure to the periphery, with the underlying tension of whether a project born from the State can truly take root in the territory.
