National Symposium on Depopulation Issues

Japan

Rural life and depopulationConferenceNational

Annual travelling symposium on Japan's depopulated areas (過疎地域), run by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the federation of affected municipalities together with a different prefecture each year (Kagawa, Nara, Saga, Yamaguchi, Aomori, Kumamoto, Kochi, Toyama, Yamanashi, Tottori, Fukui). It combines a free plenary with field visits to villages testing solutions. It is the official forum where 'relational population' and depopulation policy are debated. Tension: institutional format with little direct resident voice.
