Tag der Städtebauförderung (German Urban Development Funding Day)

Germany

Participatory urbanism and placemakingOther formatNational

Nationwide open day of the Städtebauförderung, the programme through which the federal government and the Länder co-fund municipal urban renewal. On a Saturday in May or June, around six hundred towns and cities open their projects with walks, hands-on activities and neighbourhood fêtes. It shows in one day how subsidised urban regeneration works in Germany and lets you talk to those who run it; the tension is that it is an institutional showcase for public funding, designed more to display results than to open up decisions.
