Oku-Noto Triennale

Suzu, Japan

Art and territoryRural life and depopulationArt festival or triennialInternational

Art triennial at the tip of the Noto peninsula (Suzu city, Ishikawa), held in 2017, 2021 and 2023. The earthquake of 1 January 2024 damaged 13 of the 24 permanent works and the organisers decided not to hold the fourth edition planned for 2026. During reconstruction a programme called Being runs tours of the permanent works, meant to keep the bond alive and prepare a restart. A useful case for thinking about art, disaster and territory.
