Gothenburg democracy festival, born in 2021 from a citizen initiative and organised by the association Frihamnsdagarna on the Bananpiren pier, next to the Hisingsbron bridge, in late August. Three days of seminars, workshops and debates with free entry; in 2025 over 500 organisations took part and there were about 16,000 visits. It is funded by what companies and organisations pay to programme or sponsor, with reduced prices for associations, and it requires participants not to use it for commercial messages.
