Festival der Regionen (Upper Austria)

Austria

Art and territoryRural life and depopulationArt festival or triennialRegional

Biennial contemporary art festival that since 1993 settles each time in a different non-urban region of Upper Austria, to open a critical dialogue with artists, local initiatives and residents about the present and future of rural life. Recent editions travelled through the inner Salzkammergut, the Summerau railway line and the Innviertel around Braunau; the 2027 edition follows the Danube from Linz to Passau. A clear case of art rooted in territory; the association itself acknowledges that it would not exist without public funding.
