Citizen Participation and Deliberative Democracy Festival

Democratic innovationCivic tech and digital democracyFestivalEuropean
European Commission festival on citizen participation and deliberative democracy, organised by its competence centre CC-DEMOS, part of the Joint Research Centre. It began in 2018 in Ispra as the Citizen Engagement Festival, continued in Brussels in 2019 and online in 2020, and has been biennial since. It brings together officials, researchers, practitioners, youth, artists and civil society. Tension: it is an institutional showcase, and the 2026 edition is framed by the European Democracy Shield, a framework more about security and resilience than citizen power.
