Japan

Third places and tiers-lieuxCivic design and citizen labsSummitNational

Annual travelling summit of municipalities, health and social care professionals and organisations on the 'inclusive community society' (地域共生社会), Japan's policy line seeking places and mutual-support networks beyond sectoral services. It began in 2000 as the long-term care insurance summit and was renamed in 2018; hosts have included Nagakute, Yuzawa, Kamakura, Tsuruga, Toyota, Ikoma and Kaga. Relevant to debates on ibasho (places of belonging), social prescribing and community currency. Tension: a very institutional register, and a fee for non-residents.
