Participatory urbanism and placemakingUrban commons and municipalismConferenceNational

Annual congress of the Nationale Stadtentwicklungspolitik, Germany's federal urban policy shared by the federal ministry, the Länder and the two main associations of municipalities. It moves to a different city each September (Rostock in 2025, Cologne in 2026, Chemnitz in 2027) and gathers around a thousand people to discuss neighbourhoods, housing and the common-good city. It is the reference meeting of German public urbanism; the tension is that it is a ministerial showcase where citizen participation is discussed more than practised.
