Contribute to the atlas

The atlas grows through contributions. You can propose a place from any country in the world, a practice not yet covered or a dated event, and you can also correct a published detail. Nothing is published automatically: every submission goes through review and verification following the atlas method.

Three things you can propose

  1. A placeA project or a space: an initiative with a name and people behind it, anywhere in the world. This is what the atlas maps point by point.
  2. A practiceA way of doing things in common that does not yet fit the eight typologies: machizukuri, civic food, open councils. Practices are what very different places share.
  3. An eventA dated gathering: conference, festival, summit, school, triennial. It joins the agenda with its open calls and deadlines.

You can also correct any published detail. Corrections are the most valuable part of a living atlas.

Inclusion criteria

  1. A physical, locatable place (platforms are located at their base).
  2. The community takes part in running it, or the project documents honestly who governs it.
  3. It is active or, if it closed or transformed, it left a documented trace to learn from.
  4. It fits one of the eight typologies of the atlas.

Purely commercial projects without a community dimension and initiatives without a verifiable trace stay out. Cases with tensions (gentrification, institutionalisation, conflict) do come in, with their tensions told.

What are you sending?

Countries beyond the initial four join the phase 2 queue: the proposal is stored all the same.

Prefecture, autonomous community, region, state…

On openstreetmap.org, right-click the spot and "show address" gives the coordinates.

Typologies (one to three; the first checked will be the main one)

"2011", "2010-2017" or "1970s" all work.

Short text: "Yes", "Yes (booking required)", "Urban context", "Online platform"…

What it is, why it matters for civic design and what tensions it carries. No promotional tone, 40 to 700 characters.

Institutional channels only; never personal data of individuals.

Sources (at least one is best)

Never published, deleted once the review ends.

Suggest a correction

Each place in the atlas has a button that brings you here with its identifier prefilled. Corrections are the most valuable part of a living atlas.

The atlas data is published under CC BY-SA 4.0. By contributing you accept that the information you send is published under that license, with credit to the contributor.
